Title: Hi from Chris
Post by: crisstoffer on Aug 19, 2025, 06:20 PM
Fully paid up now so thought I should say hello, I've been caving all my adult life on and off and some of you will have probably met me on trips into ODB. As anyone who knows me will testify, I'm not into caving politics or any of that nonsense, just interested in making good friends, having shared experiences underground but most of all digging ,digging and more digging. Presently just moving house so all over the place, but once everything settles down I'll be back at it properly, only work part time so often available for mid week day trips if anyone is in a similar position, cheers Chris

Hi Chris

Always good to have people that want to dig, there seems to be too many places to be and not enough hands or time to keep up!

Hope the house move goes well, see you out in the near future.

Hi Chris,

I think Mick Murphy and I met you in the car park for the spar mine on Wednesday!

Hope to catch up with you in Minera sometime and happy to lend a hand on the New Passage Pot dig.

I have a few areas I am interested in:

1) Ogof Hen Ddyn is an interesting cave/mine which had a 'interesting' passage leading to some old mine workings not far from Ogof Malwen and these probably connected to stuff near ODB. I had a couple of trips with another WCG club member to the end of the passage, but a later visit failed to find it - maybe a collapse or my memory failing.

2) Ogof Malwen is another interesting cave - there is a low section which sumps a bit and makes entry to the main passage a bit aqueous. Nothing that a bit of chemical persuasion wouldn't cure. The far end of the passage is sandy and would be an easy dig.

3) Unknown shaft - I had a wander around to find what I described was a rift in a posting referenced in another thread. With a bright light I could see that the hole wasn't a rift, but instead is a shaft. There appears to be some kind of metal drum at the bottom and it looks line the is a side passages. Depth is about 9m and the shaft is ~1.5m diameter. Probably worth a look - just needs a baulk of timber or piece of scaf to rig the rope. Accurate grid ref is SJ 2380849510 and its about 200m east of the road.
