Title: Derbyshire Weekend 20-22nd March
Post by: Tim Watts on Dec 05, 2014, 01:40 PM
Remember we won two nights in the TSG hut for up to 15 people for our stand at hidden earth. It has to be used before September 2015.

20/21/22 march.

This is the suggested route details up to now but w're still working on this.....

Saturday:

Harder Option Trip (SRT): JH-WHITERIVER-PEAK Exchange Trip

Exchange trip. With half the group going in each direction.
NB: plan that Tom will lead in from JH, Andy from Peak. The team will do an exchange trip but the leaders will stay on their respective 'sides' i.e. Tom will go back out of JH again, Andy will go out via Peak again. We must ensure we have at least 4 going back up via JH to help carry rope bags back out again on the de-rig.
Leader on the JH 'half' (in and out): Tom
Leader on the Peak 'half' (in and out): Andy

Easier Option Trip (SRT Optional) PEAK - PEAK Trip
Leader - Andy F - basically the same trip as above entering peak, but at the 'exchange' point people who don't want to do JH can exit with Andy the same way they came in.

Easiest Option (Definitely no srt and no crawling!) Peak main stream via Surprise View to the sump
Leader - Les W

Sunday:

Harder Option Trip (SRT): OXLOW - MASKHILL Exchange Trip

Another exchange trip but more straightforward in that the 'leaders' also exchange.

OXLOW->MASKHILL Leader: Tom
MASKHILL->OXLOW Leader: Andy/Tim

Easier Option Trip (SRT Optional): Bagshawe Caverns
This is a nice easy trip with the option of a bit of SRT if people want it. A perfect option if you want to take it easy after a tiring day before, or if you need to be back on the road earlier on Sunday afternoon. I intend asking Les to lead it - but in reality i think its easy enough to find your own way around without any problem. There is just a single (optional) pitch to rig if anyone wants to.
Leader - Les W

Breakfasts

Most important meal of the day!
I suggest that I go out before hand and buy enough breakfast stuff (full cooked) for 22 people for the two mornings. Enough Bread and also Tea, Coffee, Milk and Sugar. Brown sauce and red sauce.
Based on 22 people wanting this and (based on current Tesco online prices) it works out at about 2 per day £4 for the weekend.

Thats, 1 egg, 2 rashers bacon, 2 sausages, 2 slices of toast and 1/3 of a tin of beans each day plus as much tea and coffee as you can drink!

I REALLY need to know (by a reply on this forum preferably) if you want breakfast.

If i don't know you want one, I won't buy for you! I will have a list of who owes for what so it'll be tough shit if you have to sit there watching us tuck into freshly cooked bacon while you can do nothing but smell the delights you're missing - at that price i will be buying EXACTLY the right quantity so there won't be spare. Spread the word to confirm who wants breakfasts :-)

Upto now, those wanting breakfast are:

Tim
Iestyn
Tony
Sweetie
Doug
Les W
Mike L
Tom
Lauren
Purdie
Joel
'Bekka
Andy F
Lee
Boydy
Jay

Stuff to Bring

In addition to Caving gear (Don't forget SRT kits and spare batteries!)

You definitely also need, Sleeping Bag, Pillow and Towel.

You need to bring Food/drink to take underground with you

In the evenings I suggest we eat at the Chippy or Pub.

Personal Drink - Bring your own Drink but don't go mad because normally we end up taking 3 tonnes of booze and bringing back 2 tonnes. I've got heavy duty springs on the landy but even so i'll be doing well to get 15mpg with all the gear/people/trailer on board as it is!

I'd prefer NOT to stop at a supermarket on route - its tends to add ages to the travel and theres beer to be drunk when we get there!

Suggested Cost Breakdown:

Obviously you just pay for what you have....
£3 Peak access (£2 for some people if they've already paid the £1 annual fee)
£4 For breakfasts (£2 per day!)
£2.50 to cover the extra beds we need to pay for
£7.50 fuel for landrover passengers. (7 per landy x 7.50 = £52.50 to each driver)

Thats a MAXIMUM of £17 in total

(if theres any excess money left it'll either go to a donation to TSG for letting us have the free beds or club funds or something).

Think that'll be about right fuel wise - if we use less obviously the excess will go into the pub slush fund or something!

Accommodation

(we have been granted 15 free beds for the two nights as follows - additional beds are charged at £5 per person per night).

Of the 19 on the main list below that means we'll need to split the cost of 4 extra beds for two nights which equates to £40.

The charge for peak access is £3 per day per person (we intend only using it for just one day).
Rather than squabble unfairly over who has the free beds and who has the non free beds I suggest we collect £2.50 off everyone which will pay for the additional full rate beds and 3 additional cheap rate beds - this makes it fair on everyone.

The accommodation list is as follows:

1. Tim
2. Marcelle
3. Joel
4. Tom
5. Iestyn
6. Tony
7. Richard
8. Sweetie
9. Budgie
10. Doug
11. Boydy
12. Jay
13. Rebekah
14. Mike
15. Purdie
16. Lee
17. Ken
18. Lauren

Others who already have their own beds there (and aren't in the 'calculation for Bed Mondey above!):
a) Andy F
b) Les W
c) Wendy W

(Nb: obviously you just pay for your own reduced bed fee's and Peak fee's as normal).

Total 21

Transport

TIMES TO BE CONFIRMED FOR TRAVELLING ON THE FRIDAY NIGHT. I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST 6PM to be at BOYDYS & MIKES PLACES (i.e. miss the worst of the friday night traffic but still have time to get there early enough for a few beers/food etc).

If 6pm is too early for anyone finishing work? Please let me know below!

Iestyn and I are both taking Landrovers. I will also take my Trailer if need be for additional gear.

Using the landys (as well as being more sociable) means that we have less cars to try to park and also means that the logistics of car placement for the exchange trips is easier.

Tims seats 9
Iestyn can take 7

Toms making his own way.
I assume Richard/Joel and Rebekka will share a lift from down south.
I assume Wendy and Les will be in their own car anyway.
I assume Andy will meet us there in his own car.
I assume Purdie and Lauren will be in their own car.

So that leaves 14 people for the landys, 7 in each.

Therefore I would suggest the following:

Tims Landy - meeting mikes 6pm
1) Tim
2) Doug
3) Lee (Lees House)
4) Tony (Mikes House)
5) sweetie (Mikes House)
6) Mike (Mikes House - with club ropes)
7) ken

Iestyns Landy - meeting boydys at 6pm
1) Iestyn
2) jay (Boydys house)
3) Marcelle (Boydys house)
4) Budgie (Boydys house)
5) Boydy (Boydys house)

Iestyn will then come to Mikes house (very close to boydys) and we'll drive together in convoy (transferring some gear between landy as required.

Any objections then let me know!

As a rough estimate (carrying that amount of gear) its going to cost at least £50-60 per landy in diesel from Boydys/Mikes. Possibly even slightly more with the trailer on.

Tim,

That weekend is good for me! Just stick that as a date and we can crack on?

Don't forget that anyone who isn't up for Titan can go into Peak cavern, which is a non-SRT trip and could meet the others down from Titan.... I'm told white river is fantastic!

just heard from Joel and Tom - they can both do 20th march.

20th March  <----- The Proposed Date - i want to book the HUT ASAP before it gets booked up. Also there are 15 UCET beds 'free' for both nights. If they don't get used i will extend the offer to DCC members (and possibly NWCC etc members).

Would be good to get a good turnout!

PLEASE CONFIRM ASAP IF YOU ARE COMING 20TH MARCH UNTIL 22ND MARCH.

Titans a no go. But Mick, good suggestion! White river is an excellent trip! We could do it via JH.. If there are lots of us we could exchange :-)

I can forward a topo later if you haven't got one. All you need for white river rigging wise is 2x 25m ropes for pull through on the Ventilator. Block hall is pre-rigged.

Tom.
Title: Re:Derbyshire Weekend
Post by: Rostam on Jan 12, 2015, 01:46 AM
I recommend in and out via Peak. Only need to carry ventilator rope through colostomy. Been down moosetrap that way (which is fantastic! - really serious trip though pm me).

If you can swing getting speedwell that's also a good through trip to white river.

I look forward to it. I'd offer you ropes and pre rigging but the most of the student caving world will be at Northern CHECC which tends to be run by SUSS so the kit store will not have much rope sadly.

Careful Tim, DCC and TSG aren't real Derbyshire clubs, you might end up in the Yorkshire Dales or Mountain Biking if they organise the trips. ;)

Peak permission granted for both days. Remember green cards needed and there's a small fee per person per day if using peak.

Post by: Rostam on Feb 23, 2015, 08:49 AM
It's £2 for Peak. Though if you're involved in a digging/maintenance/scientific/photography project the fee is usually waved.

Incidentally it's £2 for Rowter/JH (Titan's out of commission), £3 for Giants, £2 for Oxlow/Maskhill/Nettle, and a very reasonable £1 for P8. Welcome to the peak district, we'll have your money please...

You should give the key holder advanced notice too as they have to print off indemnity forms
Title: Re:Derbyshire Weekend 20-22nd March
Post by: Tim Watts on Feb 23, 2015, 04:16 PM
Isn't it 4 for peak? Or 3 if you're staying in chapel? I can't remember its been a while!

Post by: Rostam on Feb 23, 2015, 09:15 PM
It's £2 for 'mates rates' apparently... So £50 for you lot.

It's £2 peak access, £1 for maintenance of fixed aids etc so it's £3 normally :)
Title: Re:Derbyshire Weekend 20-22nd March
Post by: Tim Watts on Feb 23, 2015, 10:16 PM
Ross cool - i was under the impression that it was as per... http://www.peakspeedwell.info/index.php/access-information/peak-cavern-access

i.e.
£4 normally
£3 if you're staying at the chapel.

But the £1 indemnity chit thing is only due once per year. So subsequent trips would be £3 or £2 depending if you're in the hut or not?

quote:

The charge this season is £4 per head (see breakdown of fees below under group co-ordinators).

and

It sometimes very busy at the Chapel making it extremely difficult for the key holders to collect money & get forms signed.  For this reason we are asking anyone booking Peak Cavern to nominate a Group Co-ordinator who is responsible for getting all the forms completed and collecting the money.  The money is split three ways so it is useful if each separate category is collected separately.

Individuals should be over 18 years of age and covered by a suitable insurance policy such as the BCA scheme.  The co-ordinator should have proof of insurance for the group.

Indemnities - Need completing once a year from October (Please find the downloadable document below). The forms should be fully completed and witnessed -

 - Indemnity Chit - £1.00
 - Day fees - £1.00, not applicable to overnight guests at the TSG.
 - Peak Cavern fees - £2.00

Title: Re:Derbyshire Weekend 20-22nd March
Post by: Tim Watts on Feb 23, 2015, 11:01 PM
yes...err...what he said!

Honestly i haven't got a clue. Literally all i know in derbyshire is titan through to peak!

I am game for ANYTHING!

I think with the numbers we could also be looking at multiple trips each day anyway.

Tom. Do you fancy having a stab at a proposed itinery for the two days.

Perhaps a choice of easy/heard trips for each day to give people the choice and then we'll go from there?

JH-PEAK with WHITE RIVER inbetween is one option for one of the days - would need to do a nice exchange trip coz i don't fancy going back round and up top again in to de-rig it.

I go down peak too often to know the fees it seems... You need to get the access code for Bagshawe btw. The entrance is a small hut. Or an impressive free dive against the current...

As for peak trips, if you feel like extending your trip Les, you can do so without crawling - I can recommend Lake Sump and the stuff at the far end upstream is a fair way but easy going and really worth it if it's dry
Title: Re:Derbyshire Weekend 20-22nd March

I am surprised there's no P8 trip...
Way better than Bagshawe!

I know this is not helpful as you've sorted the trips already! If you've got recently SRT trained people then Eldon in good weather is perfect to consolidate it. Plus it's a really nice place for a BBQ

Tim, I won't be travelling in your love bus on the Friday as I'll be coming from the other way and unsure what time I will be getting down there for..
See you there.

I now have a horrible cold, but still working as the hero I am. Coming from a council estate in Liverpool I'm hoping that either Doug or Sweetie can double up as a "Nanny Maid" and soothe me in the evenings and make sure my runny nose is wiped. Ta mucho  :P

There is absolutely no way I'm being middle spoon again!  Especially after what happened in the back of Mike's van at hidden earth.

Are you not called 'captain mike' following the hidden earth sleeping arrangements?
I don't know, I was safe in my Car...

Lee, caving usually stops a runny nose :-) Tim likes hand holding though.

Hi All

I was hoping to make this trip just for the Saturday but I have been bullied in to set building  :(

So have a good safe trip and I will try and make the next one.

Still plenty of tickets available if anyone fancy a night out in April 9,10 or 11th (No heckling please! )

Two reminders:

Everyone needs to be at boydys or mikes at 6pm friday.

Everyone 100% needs their green BCA cards. Its a condition of Peak Cavern Access and theres no way round it if you forget yours!

good trip peeps - for those who didn't do the white river, i'll look at doing a return once Moose lets me know the Titan shaft is fixed (probably be after summer). Can do Titan-white river-peak exchange and the bonus is you miss colostomy crawl!

Anyway, thanks very much to everyone for coming and making it a success!

We paid for the additional rooms (over the 15 free ones) out of the money collected plus Iestyn and I both took £25 for fuel. There was £26 left over in excess after all the breakfast stuff, peak fee's etc were paid for - i left this as a 'donation' to TSG as a thankyou for the prize.
