UCET Ladies Trip Advisor - Monday 27th October 2025

An interesting lead mine in the gwydyr forest, has exceptional mineralisation. And other interesting mine features including Ore chutes and cave pearls.

This is a bit of an adventurous mine explore, with ladders, false floors and narrow ledges.

Suitable for novices with some previous trips under their belt.

Where: Betws-y-coed
Parking: forestry turning circle up a track off the B5106. Please park considerably to not block any of the trackways.

Time: 18:30
Equipment needed: Helmet, lamp, gloves, wellies, overalls/ oversuit, knee pads, harness/ belt and cowstails for traverse lines. Change of clothes.

If you need to borrow a helmet, lamp and/harness let us know prior to the trip.

Hi Sheena,

Welcome to UCET.
Have you done any mine exploring before, as this mine is not suitable for complete novices due to it's crumbly nature, false floors and dodgey ladders.

There's a beginners trip being run on Thursday 13th November which may be more suitable if you're new to mine exploring/ caving.

Hello Mary,

Thanks for your reply. I should have said I have some experience.

I've been in many mines in northwales area years gone by and have recently just got back into it. Went in the mines in Corris 2 weeks ago. Was exploring underground for a good few hours. Lots of dodgy ladders here too.

If you feel I need more experience absolutely understand.
